Is chiropractic safe for children and the elderly?
Absolutely! Almost everyone from newborns-elderly can benefit from chiropractic care. Babies get very light care with no “cracks” or big maneuvers. Elderly patients also receive lighter-force care that still helps to increase joint mobility and overall function. We have an array of techniques and tools to help get you better.
Currently our practice is out-of-network from all insurances and not-participating in Medicare. However, we are happy to provide you an invoice or superbill, as courtesy, for you to send to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Yes! The “D.C.” stands for Doctor of Chiropractic, similar to “M.D.” standing for Doctor of Medicine. We must obtain a bachelor’s degree (3-5 years), graduate from Chiropractic school (3-4 years), then pass multiple federal board and state exams for our licensure. We take pride in our knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, neurology, and nutrition.
We focus on restoring motion to joints so that your body is more functional and balanced from your feet to head, so your nervous system can work from your head to your feet. By adjusting a joint, we help break through the micro adhesions around that joint to allow movement and instantly affect the nervous system, triggering a chemical reaction pain cascade— ultimately resulting in endorphins being released to the surrounding musculature. When our sympathetic and parasympathetic are working together properly, the nerves innervating other associated muscles, tissues, and organs will be able to relax and function normally. This may indirectly help symptoms you may have not thought were actually correlated to your spinal nerves.
All joints are sealed and circulate a synovial lubricant fluid. Adjustments involve momentarily distracting the joint to break through unwanted micro-adhesions, which can result in a gas bubble from the negative pressure, possibly resulting in an audible sound. It should not be painful. And yes, it is similar to your knuckles.
There are risks in every healthcare profession. However, we reduce these risks dramatically by really communicating with our patients before we start care, and each visit after. We perform thorough examinations and really take into account your health history to rule out any potential red flags. Your treatment will then be adapted to fit your specific condition(s) and needs.
It depends! The way I like to summarize each profession is: Chiropractic treats the entire spine, including the pelvis and ribcage, as well as all other joints, with extra focus on the nerves innervating them; Physical Therapy helps with rehabbing and restoring proper muscle function and ability; and Massage Therapy typically focuses on relaxing tense muscle groups, and can aid in breaking through scar tissues and improving overall circulation throughout the body.
